There has been a lot of buzz in the press recently about the amount of people choosing to holiday in the UK rather than going abroad. Whether it be to save money, the worry of travel issues or just to experience a good old fashioned British holiday, there is always plenty to do here in the UK and sometimes I think it’s easy to forget that there is more to a holiday than getting tan (well in my opinion there is!).
Don’t get me wrong, I love the sunshine but more times than not we have fabulous summers here in the UK and it is a great excuse to head to the favourite holiday spots for some much needed relaxation and to explore our beautiful country. A real favourite for holiday makers is travelling to the South West to visit Cornwall or Devon, I know first hand how popular the area I live in is, being right beside the beach.
Some of my favourite holidays have been staying in the UK, as a kid most of our breaks included camping or caravanning so I certainly know how much fun it can be exploring beautiful parts of the UK. Devon and Cornwall are both a popular choice for people looking for ultimate staycations and each region provides a huge range of activities and places to explore, suitable for the whole family.
Here in Devon there are tons of great places to see including the city of Exeter and the two fabulous National Parks Exmoor and Dartmoor. The coastlines are some of the best in the UK with miles of sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and secluded coves. As many of you know and see regularly from my Instagram I live right beside the sea in North Devon and it is such a lovely place whatever time of the year.
Cornwall is another lovely region to visit and I actually went on my honeymoon to Fowey in South Cornwall. We had the best weather and people actually commented on whether we’d been abroad as we were so tanned. Myself and hubby visited the local area and absolutely fell in love with Mevagissey, a cute little harbour town. Another amazing place was Polkerris, as we found a secluded cove and you could have mistaken it for foreign shores. The area was stunning and the sea was beautifully warm, I didn’t want to leave it was so tranquil.
There are so many places to enjoy staycations and they can be really affordable too. I’m an advocate for holidays in the UK especially in the South West as there are so many places to discover.
