Places to Visit in 2016

places to visit

I’m sure everyone (myself included) has a long list of places to visit for the year ahead.  I’d love to be exploring the globe like the many travel bloggers I follow but alas I’m relegated at the moment to being inspired through my laptop screen.  Not all is lost though, I mean we have a great range of places to visit right here in the UK and many of which I have never step foot in so my list is mainly filled with lots of lovely locations scattered throughout the UK.

With my impending move to from Devon to Somerset, I’m staying in the South West and intend on exploring lots of it over the next year, on a budget of course.  According to National Geographic Traveller UK’s Cool list – 16 must see destinations for 2016, Somerset is at number 11!  To be honest I was slightly shocked as number 12 is Rio de Janeiro but this can only be a good thing.  One of the major hotspots highlighted was the popular city of Bath, not only famed for historic beauty but a city of culture, arts and fashion.

The cool list says ‘Somerset has seen a spate of recent openings, from boutique B&Bs such as Durslade Farmhouse to self-catering accommodation like Bath Mill Lodge Retreat, which reopened as a Hoseasons resort last summer. Its most famous town, Bath, is becoming hip again — the Gainsborough Bath Spa, a Grade II-listed building, combines a stellar hotel with spa facilities dating back to Roman times’.

As all this lovely new stuff is popping up for the new year, I’m going to be taking a little trip to a place that’s very unique, all i’m saying is it’s based in Somerset and super cute.  It’ll be so nice to spend some time with hubby and explore the local area, I may also be doing an Instagram takeover so make sure you tune in for some beautiful snaps.

The South West has so many beautiful and interesting places to visit for 2016, are you planning on a holiday or short break to the west country?  I’d love to hear your plans!
