Onitsuka Tiger Celebrates The World Cup in Style

This summer Rio de Janeiro will be awash with colour, noise, celebrations and commiserations as crowds gather in the streets, bars and stadia of the world’s most celebrated football nation.

To mark the 2014 festival of football Onitsuka Tiger, the original sports lifestyle label, has created a collection of Brazil-inspired trainers for fashion-conscious fans.

The collection has four styles: two versions of MEXICO 66, HULSE and VICKKA MOSCOW.  The distinctive designs feature on-trend court styles and Brazil’s national colours – yellow, green and blue – so wearers can samba at home or away.

MEXICO 66 – the silhouette of the summer

This is Onitsuka Tiger’s most iconic style and the first to sport the famous Tiger Stripes in 1966, in preparation for the Mexico Olympic Games 1968.

Today, MEXICO 66’s low ankle cut is the silhouette of the summer and looks great with all trouser lengths.  Its signature heel tab features the “Tiger” logo, a smart detail that makes the shoe easier to pull on.

Available in leather in two colourways – Amazon green and yellow, or blue and white – RRP is £65.00.

New for 2014 is HULSE, a suede court shoe that takes its design cue from indoor football shoes.  The lifestyle trainer has curved stitching on the toe and a unique folded tongue.

Elegant, comfortable and versatile for everyday wear, HULSE is available in stylish mid blue and green.  RRP £60.00.

VIKKA MOSCOW was created for the Japanese Olympic team to wear at the Moscow Olympic Games 1980.  The shoes were never worn, because Japan boycotted the event in protest at the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

The Brazil VICKKA MOSCOW is a suede court shoe in green and yellow; it’s great for hot weather given its cooling hole-punched toe area.  RRP £65.00.
