Last weekend we took a little trip to Somerset to celebrate a family birthday, the weather was gorgeous and on Sunday we met for some coffee and cake before heading back to Devon. My normal haunt for coffee stops are the main chains but this stop had a pleasant difference. We visited Hestercombe Gardens in Taunton and I was in awe of how beautiful this place was, especially of such a gorgeous sunny morning.
Our visit was short but hubby enjoyed a cream tea and scone whilst I opted for a latte and the most amazing rocky road cake. We sat outside in what would have been the old stables, it was beautifully presented with fresh flowers on the table and lovely friendly atmosphere. The little shop had amazing local products including ciders, jams, gifts and in particular gorgeous flowers for your garden.
After coffee we wandered around a snippet of the spectacular gardens, I really mean a snippet, the whole area of Hestercombe encompasses 50 acres of beauty from landscaped gardens, woodland walks, stunning lakes and historic buildings dotted around the estate. The small area we walked was incredibly beautiful and I wished we had some more time to explore.
If you are looking for a summer activity this is the perfect day out, it would be poetically romantic to take a picnic and really soak up the essence of the area, it’s sheer size, beauty and history that accompanies this amazing place.
