Track Your Progress
A great way to stay motivated to keep active is to track your progress. Invest in an activity tracker so you can keep track of how much you move each day and there are multiple apps and gadgets out there that you can use to track how fast and how far you run. Watching those numbers stack up feels great!
Having something to work towards can really help keep you focused. Goals need to be SMART, that’s Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. So you could set yourself a goal to run a 5k in under 30 minutes, to hit your 10,000 steps every day in a week or a month, or to be able to 10 do press ups by Christmas.
Change Your Routine
As the evenings get darker it might be that the run you went for after work all Summer suddenly isn’t so appealing. You don’t have to force yourself, exercise should be fun, not a punishment! Look for other ways to get active, switch your evening run to lunch times, join an evening class that’s fun, or invest in a games console like Wii and try out some of the exercise and fitness games that you get for it so you can stay fit in the comfort of your living room.
Dust Off Your DVDs
Fitness DVDs are a massive industry, and if you find it hard to get out of the house as the nights draw in they can be a great way to stay active in the comfort of your own home. They’re easy to find second hand on eBay, so invest in a few until you find one that you love, or just rotate them to avoid boredom.
Reward your Achievements
Having something to work towards is a great motivation. You could try putting a pound in a jar every time you go for a run and treating yourself to something nice when it’s full. You can also set yourself goals and treat yourself when you hit them, like a new piece of gym kit every time you run 20 miles, or a beauty treatment if you’ve been to all your fitness classes in a month.
So just give these simple things a try to get you active and feeling healthy!
